Christmas this year was one of the loveliest I can remember. Partly, I think, because I didn't focus on making everything look perfect and just tried to relax and enjoy every moment.
The tree was too dry, the tinsel was messy and clumpy, I never even got to decorate the front door with fresh roping and lights, and the freshly laundered and bleached slipcovers never made it out of the dryer. Oh and I did something I never thought I'd do, I actually bought one of those giant "bag o bows". I love to make beautiful packages (my mother is the queen of beautiful wrapping and this year made tags out of scans of my fabric which I thought was extremely sweet) but just didn't want to stay up all night wrapping this year. The kids don't give a hoot either way, obviously. It was more fun to sleep and be well rested for Christmas morning. Everyone was happy and loved being together, what more could I ask for.
My mother got Ava the sweetest vintage sewing basket filled with buttons, pin cushions, embroidery stuff...Ava loved it and I can't wait to see her using it.
Also, saw a great movie with my husband, just the two of us which was so nice in itself, The Darjeeling Limited. It was so smart, funny and beautiful to look at like all Wes Anderson's films.
Hope your holiday was full of light and love.
